Dr. Pouya Samani
Circularity and Sustainability Assessment at TNO

Pouya has worked as a Postdoc in the research group and later on continued his career as an Assistant Professor at Maastricht University.

Pouya is pursuing his career as a scientist at the Circularity & Sustainability Impact (CSI) department of the Netherlands Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO). My main fields of interest are Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), circularity assessment, and sustainability assessment.

Dr. Carlos García-Velásquez
Senior Consultant at EY

Carlos García-Velásquez is our first PhD candidate within our research group. His PhD research aims to explore the effect of accounting of environmental impacts (global warming, land use, water use, human toxicity) in the design of biobased chemical supply chains using local biomass resources (sugar beet and Miscanthus. After successfully defending his doctoral thesis, he pursued a career in the industry at EY within the Climate Change and Sustainability Services department. There, he focuses on connecting the industrial sector with strategies for quantifying their environmental and social impacts.

Marco Serafini
Scientific Project Officer at JRC

Marco worked as a sustainability researcher at the Aachen-Maastricht Institute for Biobased Materials (AMIBM). He holds a degree in material and nanotechnology engineering, along with an MSc in Biobased Materials from Maastricht University, where he specialized in the field of sustainability. In his master's thesis, he conducted a Life Cycle Assessment of biobased colorants, specifically curcumin, in food packaging applications. For this work, he was awarded the “Menno Knetsch Thesis Award 2022.”

Marco is pursuing his career at JRC in Petten, the Netherlands, where he works as a sustainability researcher focused on hydrogen technologies and the supply chain.
